Our Mission

Our mission is to minimise the consumption of virgin materials, and provide a greener alternative to the current scenic construction industry. At Marmoset we work with other environmentally responsible companies to source material and unused scenic elements. We then build or modify existing set pieces, using recycled elements to bring your project to life.

We aim for every build to meet the intermediate production targets set out by the Theatre Green Book (75% of materials have a previous life, 80% reused or recycled after project completion) and guarantee that all our builds hit the baseline target (50% of materials have a previous life, 65% reused or recycled after project completion.)

Upon completion of any project, we’ll provide you with a carbon report that will allow you to see a breakdown of materials used and percentages of those recycled. This will allow you to see the real impact your business has made.

Our Story

Max Gabbott and Fergus Massie met in 2019 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where they studied set construction. Max having come from a design background and Fergus a time served joiner, they found their skillsets complimented each other. They continued to work together during the following 3 years on a range of film, theatre and television projects. It was during this time that they became aware of the unsustainable and wasteful practises of the industry, often building projects only to see them sent to landfill weeks later. Out of these experiences came the desire to create change and to find an alternative method of working.

In 2022 they finished their studies and were awarded the prestigious Bruce Millar Graduate Fellowship, which supported the creation and development of Marmoset as a business. Since then, the two have successfully been working in the industry for a wide range of clients within the theatre, television and live events sectors.
